NEBRASKA CITY -  Nebraska City Mayor Bryan Bequette commended wrestling champion Makayla Vasser in a proclamation at Monday’s city council meeting.

He credited the sophomore for speed, strength and attitude in winning the 190-pound Class A girls state wrestling title.

Bequette: “You are just the whole-package athlete. It’s pretty amazing.”

She compiled a season record of 42 wins and zero losses, including 34 wins by pins.

She is the first Pioneer in school history to win a girls state wrestling championship.
