Larry Jones, 78, of rural Tecumseh, formerly of Plattsmouth

Larry Robert Jones was born on February 7, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska to Lawrence and Ruth (Wiles) Jones. He was baptized on March 2, 1947 and confirmed May 21, 1961 at First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Larry graduated from Plattsmouth High School. Larry attended UNL for one year and then worked for Western Electric in Omaha for a number of years. After high school, Larry joined the National Guard. He was honorably discharged with a rank of Staff Sergeant E-6.
Larry was united in marriage to Florence Ann Lail on October 6, 1978 at First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. They were happily married for almost 47 years. Larry and Flo were blessed to raise three boys, Charlie, Daniel and Jason.
Larry worked for OPPD as a lineman and a troubleshooter out of the Louisville office and later the Tecumseh office. He retired from OPPD on June 1, 2010. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoying nature. One of his favorite memories included horseback riding in the Colorado mountains and outfitting overnight while going hunting.
Larry also enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren’s activities. He would call them the day after and rehash the games/activities with his grandchildren. Larry was also an avid Poker player, winning a World Tour of Poker jacket that he was proud of.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church near Elk Creek. Larry served on several boards/committees while he was a member.
Larry was a man with unwavering strength, always offering his thoughts to help guide his children and grandchildren. He passed away March 8, 2025 at his home near Tecumseh at the age of 78 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Flo, his sons, Charlie Pierce and wife Julie (Buescher), Daniel Jones and wife RaeAnn (Noerrlinger) and Jason Jones and wife Elizabeth (Johnson), eight grandchildren, Alyssa (Pierce) and husband William Taylor, Justin Pierce, Cara Pierce, Keegan Jones, Cooper Jones, Hayley Jones and Hanna Jones, sister Linda Jaxon and husband Terry and nephew Don Jaxon.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Derek Jaxon.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2025 at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska with Rev. Bill Cornelius officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may go to the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, Nebraska.
