State trooper killed responding to I-80 crash

CASS COUNTY, Neb. (KOLN) - A trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol was killed while responding to a crash on Interstate 80 on Monday.
NSP said the crash happened while the trooper and others were responding to another crash on I-80 between Greenwood and Ashland.
The name of the trooper hasn’t been released.
NSP has asked the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the crash investigation.
Nebraska 511 reported both lanes of I-80 between Highway 63 and Highway 66 were shut down around 9:47 a.m. The westbound lanes have since reopened.
Drivers are recommended to avoid the area and use Highway 6 as an alternate route.
According to the Nebraska 511 website, that portion of I-80 is partially covered with snow.

The Nebraska State Patrol is heartbroken to announce that a Nebraska State Trooper has been killed in the line of duty today.
A motor vehicle crash occurred while the trooper and others were responding to another crash on Interstate 80 between Ashland and Greenwood. The name of the trooper will be released when appropriate.
NSP has asked the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the crash investigation. As winter weather conditions continue across the state, NSP urges all motorists to be safe if they must travel. I-80 remains closed between mile markers 420 and 426 at this time.
