Rodney Wayne Smith, age 66 of Acton, MA died December 23, 2024 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, succumbing to an aggressive illness recently diagnosed as Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy. Rodney was born August 20, 1958 in Tachikawa AFB, Japan. He and his family moved to Nebraska City in 1964, and he graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1976. Rodney competed in wrestling and cross country, and he was active in choir, swing choir and theatre. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in August of 1976. He served four years active duty, serving in Italy and Louisiana, and was honorably discharged as a E-4 Sergeant in August of 1980. He was a graduate of Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR, a private liberal arts college, with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Rodney worked as an Associate Engineer until his retirement. Rodney enjoyed backpacking, bee keeping, brewing his own beer and playing a variety of musical instruments. The residents of Acton would regularly see Rodney driving around town or at parks and markets with his dog Eddy. Rodney is survived by his wife, Rhoda; two daughters, Erika (Isaac) Wine of Medford, OR and Madelyn (Pedro) Bussola of Sacramento, CA; two grandchildren, Henry Wine and Bruno Bussola; father, Duane Smith of Nebraska City; mother, Joann Macomb of Walton and his brother, Russ Smith of Walton. Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Omaha National Cemetery.
