LINCOLN - The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has recently added a top causes of death dashboard to its website.

Public Health Director Charity Menefee said the dashboard can increase public awareness about the population’s overall wellness and encourage work to improve outcomes.

Menefee: ““This dashboard is a key resource for the people of Nebraska, our medical community, researchers, and health departments to help foster healthier Nebraskans and families and stronger, more informed communities.”

The dashboard includes death data from 2005 to 2023.

The leading causes of death in the Southeast District Health Department are heart disease, 118; cancer, 106; renal disease, 24; diabetes, 23. Covid-19, influenza and pneumonia are attributed to 20 deaths.
