Six-vehicle chain reaction accident results in several injuries
DONIPHAN, Neb. — Seven people are hurt after a chain reaction crash in Central Nebraska.
It happened just after 6:45 Thursday night near Doniphan, which is about seven miles south of Grand Island. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says a car tried to turn onto Highway 281 from the Dollar General parking lot and hit a southbound semi. That collision caused a chain reaction that led to a series of accidents involving six vehicles. According to a news release, medical personnel transported seven people to area hospitals. One of those people had life-threatening injuries.
While providing traffic control, another vehicle hit a sheriff’s patrol unit. The crash caused major damage to the patrol unit but the deputy wasn’t hurt.
Sheriff’s officials say weather conditions were a factor in the accidents. The Nebraska State Patrol and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team are still investigating.
