BEATRICE- The National Weather Service issued a Blizzard warning for southeast Nebraska counties and northern Kansas areas, late Saturday afternoon.

That warning will generally replace a Winter Storm Warning that had been issued earlier, for much of the same area…..set to expire at 3 a.m. Sunday….when it will be replaced with the Blizzard warning.  Other southeast and south-central Nebraska counties will remain under the Winter Storm Warning, from Nebraska City to Hastings and farther to the west, along the Nebraska-Kansas border.

That warning was issued to extend to midnight, Sunday.

Late Saturday afternoon, a coating of freezing drizzle was beginning to make roadways slick in southeast Nebraska.    A winter storm is now expected to drop significant snow of 8 to 13 inches…..with some areas in the southeast corner of Nebraska and portions of northeast Kansas and northern Missouri….potentially getting up to 18 inches of snow by the time the storm moves on farther east.

During blizzard condions on Sunday, weather service officials say travel will be difficult to impossible, with widespread snow greatly reducing visibility.

As of just before 5 p.m. Saturday, the area around Beatrice had not seen any development of snow expected to arrive in the overnight hours of Saturday into early Sunday.
