DIX, Neb. — Authorities responded to a one-vehicle injury accident involving a pickup truck hauling a U-Haul trailer early Thursday morning near the Dix exit on Interstate 80.

Details about the cause of the crash have not yet been released by authorities. However, the Nebraska Department of Transportation reported Interstate 80, along with all major highways in Kimball and Banner Counties—including Highway 30 and Highway 71—were completely covered in snow Thursday morning.

The Nebraska State Patrol, Kimball County Sheriff’s Office, Kimball EMS, Dix Fire Department, Kimball Police Department and Little Tornado Towing responded to the scene.

The National Weather Service noted light to moderate snowfall was expected to continue spreading east across the Nebraska Panhandle, with a 39% chance of at least one inch of total accumulation in Kimball County.

Another non-injury accident was reported on Highway 19 south of Lorenzo in Cheyenne County involving a Dodge pickup and herd of cattle. The vehicle ended up in a nearby ditch, but airbags were not deployed. There were reports of dead cattle on the road.

Drivers are urged to use caution and allow extra time for travel as winter weather conditions persist.
