Scoring Drought Dooms Lady Raiders Against Central
SCOTTSBLUFF – The Sidney Lady Raiders scored just three points over nearly fifteen minutes of the second and third quarters to fall to Cheyenne Central on Thursday evening in the Boarder Brawl Tournament at Scottsbluff High School. The late addition to the Lady Raider schedule resulted in Sidney’s second loss of the young season.
Sidney, who has scored 65% of their points in the paint, had struggled shooting the ball from the perimeter over their first four games. The Lady Raiders found their touch early in the contest, hitting a trio of three pointers on the way to a 17-15 first-quarter lead.
However, Sidney only managed two field goals and five free throws over the next two periods to fall behind 37-27 heading into the final quarter. A late rally cut the Central lead to five points, but Sidney could get no closer falling 52-45 to the Indians.
Sidney was led by Kierra Schrader with 12 points. Jordyn Schnell and Kayla Westby chipped in eight points apiece. Central had three players reach double figures led by senior Izzy Kelly with 15 points. Fellow senior, Karsen Tempel, added 14 points while junior Elizabeth Needham had 12 points.
Sidney returns to the court on Saturday when they host Torrington at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. Junior Varsity games start at 2:00 p.m. The Lady Raiders will take the court at 3:30 p.m. followed by the Red Raider game at 5:00 p.m.
