VALENTINE, Neb. - Jury selection is underway in the trial of 49-year-old Jason Rodgers, a Valentine man accused of assaulting two people and stealing a firearm during an incident in October 2023. Rodgers faces three felony charges: burglary, second-degree assault, and possession or receipt of a stolen firearm.

According to court documents, Rodgers allegedly broke into a Valentine home and attacked a man and a woman, injuring them in the process. The victims reported being hit with a crutch, punched, and stomped in the face. Rodgers is also accused of stealing the man’s belongings, including a loaded handgun.

If convicted, Rodgers could face up to 20 years in prison for each Class 2A felony charge under Nebraska law. The trial is expected to proceed following the jury selection process.
