Sheriff suspects alcohol was a factor in wrong-way collision on Highway 2
PALMRYA – The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office reports that alcohol is suspected to be a factor in a two-vehicle crash Monday night that left both drivers hospitalized.
A press release says a Nissan Rouge driven by 63-year-old David Haldeman of Lincoln was traveling westbound on Highway 2 in the eastbound lane and collided with an Audi Q5 driven by 54-year-old Stacie Higgins of Nebraska City.
Haldeman was taken by medical helicopter to a Lincoln hospital with serious injuries. Palmyra Rescue took Higgins to a Lincoln hospital for her injuries.
The sheriff’s office says the investigation into the crash is continuing.

On November 25, 2024, at 8:07 pm, the Otoe County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, along with Palmyra Fire and Rescue and Douglas Fire and Rescue responded to a two-vehicle injury crash near Palmyra on Highway 2, east of the Highway 43 intersection.
The investigation indicates that a 2016 Nissan Rogue driven by 63-year-old David Haldeman of Lincoln was traveling westbound on Highway 2 in the eastbound traffic lane colliding head-on with a 2023 Audi Q5 driven by 54-year-old Stacie Higgins of Nebraska City.
Haldeman was the only occupant of his vehicle and was transported by helicopter to a Lincoln hospital with serious injuries.
Higgins was the only occupant of her vehicle and was transported by Palmyra Rescue to a Lincoln hospital for her injuries.
Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor. The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation into the crash.
