SHUBERT - Indian Cave State Park is hosting the Christmas bird count from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Dec. 19.

The Audubon Society provides data from the annual count on its population trends report, showing wintering shifts of bird populations. The Christmas Bird Count is considered one of only two large data collections to inform biologists about how the birds of America are faring over time.

Indian Cave is 3,000 acres full of different bird species including bald eagles, hawks, crows and dark-eyed juncos. Waterfowl can be spotted with some hiking and blue jays, cardinals and sparrows are expected to gather at congregate bird feeding stations.

A free soup feed follows.
