The Sun Sets on the LCC Football Season at Sandy Creek
FAIRFIELD, NE - Lourdes Central Catholic's run of upsets in the Class D1 football tournament came to an end in the semifinals on Friday, as Sandy Creek moved on to the title bout with a 63-8 win.
LCC was only down 6-0 after the opening stanza, but a 24 point second quarter put the host squad on top 30-8 at the half. SC dropped 27 points on the board in the third frame and held on for the 63-8 victory.
Callen Schnitzer had the lone score for Lourdes, finding pay dirt on a two-yard touchdown run just seconds into the second quarter to give his team its lone lead of the night at 8-6.
Quarterback Ethan Shaw led the Cougars' offense, racking up 179 yards and two scores on just 18 carries. Shaw also went 5/12 passing for 74 yards and a score. Connor Rempe tacked on 54 yards on six carries, with half of those runs being touchdowns.
Wes Biltoft grabbed an interception & recovered a fumble as the Knights turned it over four times in the loss.
The Knights' season ends with a mark of 9-3, while Sandy Creek is 12-0. The top-seeded Cougars will clash with two-seed Stanton in the championship game at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln at 2:45 p.m. on Monday, November 25.
