Larry Larson
April 7, 1937 - November 9, 2024

Larry Larson was born on April 7, 1937, to Vera (Nash) and Lawrence Larson at the Larson farm south of Douglas, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm outside Palmyra, Nebraska, with his parents and little sister, Ann. He attended country school until he went to high school in Palmyra where he graduated in 1955.

After high school, Larry got a job in Unadilla where he taught himself to butcher cattle and other livestock. He was later offered a job by the locker owner in Syracuse, who not only became his boss but one of the best friends Larry would ever have. The two enjoyed hunting together regularly.

Larry also spent six years in the army reserves beginning in 1958. He was a rifle instructor and company driver.

In November 1962, Larry married Margo Von Bergen, whom he met in Syracuse with the help of two local women who encouraged him to ask her out on a date. Larry and Margo had two daughters — Liz and Jenn.

Larry worked for a local grocery store for one year before he purchased and ran his own grocery store, Larry’s Market in Syracuse. Larry sold his grocery store and bought in to a partnership at MK Meats, the locker in Unadilla, where he worked until his retirement in 1997.

Larry was a thoughtful and loving husband to Margo for more than 50 years until she passed away in September 2013. His daughters saw him as the strongest and most reliable person in their lives. He was always there to help get something done or answer a question. But he was probably best known for his sense of humor. Larry was always ready with a pun or a dad joke.

In August 2015, Larry married Gerri Eisenhauer. Throughout his life, Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, maintaining his family farm, wood working, and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated member of Pheasants Forever for many years.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and Lawrence Larson; wife, Margo Larson; granddaughter, Sydney Thompson; and good friends, Buck and Barb McCallum. He is survived by his daughters, Liz Thompson and Jenn Buxton; wife, Gerri Eisenhauer Larson; sister, Ann Brinkhoff; sons-in-law, Doug Thompson and Loren Buxton; grandchildren, Ry Thompson, Megan Thompson, and Miles Buxton; stepsons and stepdaughter, Allen Eisenhauer, and Jan and Chris Moore; step grandchildren, Allison and Adam Kriz (Jack and Jamie), Turner and Rachel Moore (Rooney), Chloe Moore and fiancé Rolf Kloch, Hannah and Jordan Lowe (Ellie and Libbie), and Maggie Eisenhauer; sister and brother-in-law, Nikki Barcomb and Dick Von Bergen; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, November 14th at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on St. John’s Facebook page.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
