River Country votes in favor of medical marijuana
NEBRASKA CITY - Nebraskans approved medical marijuana by 70 percent and 68 percent or higher in River Country.
It was most popular in Douglas County, where itwas approved by 80 percent of the voters. It had more than 70 percent of the vote in Burt, Cass, Dakota, Dodge, Lancaster, Otoe, Sarpy and Thurston counties.
It was least popular in Hayes County in southwest Nebraska with 37 percent in favor. It had less than 45 percent of the vote in Arthur, Garfield, Grant, McPherson, Sioux and Wheeler counties.
Cass County approved with 74 percent
Johnson County 68 percent
Nemaha County with 68 percent
Otoe County with 70 percent
Richardson County with 68 percent
A Nebraska Examiner story says while both measures 437 and 438 passed, the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office is challenging signatures on the petition. If District Judge Susan Strong sides with former state senator John Kuehn and Secretary of State Bob Evnen she could void the election. However, the district judge rules, the case is likely to be referred to the state Supreme Court.
38 states have legalized medical marijuana and 24 have recreational marijuana.
