Veterans Memorial Building enters new fundraising phase for ongoing maintenance
Grants, donations supported $3.7 million renovation of Veterans Memorial Building
NEBRASKA CITY - A new outdoor sign highlighted what might be the last quarterly report for the Veterans Memorial Building restoration project before city commissioners.
Gloria Glover of the non-profit Nebraska City Veterans Memorial Building Project, a group that is agreement with the city to provide quarterly reports, said the restoration is in the rental and lease phase after a $3.7 million project that was financed by donations, grants and volunteer work.
Recently the kitchen, auditorium and stage have been finished and the new sign is installed.
Repairs and renovations since 2016 include windows and doors, bathrooms, elevator, auditorium floor, heating and air, catering kitchen and roof repair.
A fundraiser for the group’s endowment is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Nov. 16. Glover said the endowment will help ensure there is funding to maintain the building.
