NEBRASKA CITY - The ballot for Otoe County includes a 1 percent sales tax for Talmage, a fire district levy override in Unadilla and contested races for county board, school boards and village boards.

Talmage proposes a sales tax to join Bennet, Eagle, Elmwood,  Murray, Palmyra,  Sterling and Unadilla on the list of villages with a sales tax.

The Unadilla fire district would be allowed to levy property tax not to exceed 1.4 cents per $100 in taxable valuation.

Running for Syracuse City Council are incumbent Wesley Halvorsen and Robert Johnson. For Nebraska City mayor are incumbent Bryan Bequette and Timothy Morgan.

For Otoe County Board District 6, Republican incumbent Danny Crownover is challenged by Libertarian Craig Bolz.

The Libertarian Party of Nebraska did not list Bolz as a candidate on its website the day prior to the election. The website says five Libertarians were elected in 2022 including to an NRD, school boards and city councils in Sidney and Gretna. Otoe County has 133 voters registered Libertarian.

Otoe County has contested school board races at Syracuse and Palmyra.

There are five candidates for three seats on the Syracuse School Board. They are Brianne Neemann Wilhelm, Tyler Kreifels, Amy Wemhoff, Kathryn Szczepaniak and Aaron Lessmann.

The five candidates for three seats on the Palmyra School board are Tim Cheney, Brandon Desh, Jaimi Calfee, Jim Tate and Vicki Hillman.

There are also contested seats for village boards.

There are four candidates for two open seats at Dunbar. Candidates are Lorna Anderson, Mike Doty, Scott Richardson and Terry Weible.

Unadilla has three candidates for two seats. Candidates are Dale Stoner, Scott Hincker and Jason Schomerus.
