TABOR, IA - It was an 8-man football matchup on Friday night as the 3-4 Sidney Cowboys took on the 6-1 Fremont-Mills Knights. This one started off on a weird note as after both teams' first drives ended scoreless, a bad snap on a punt for Sidney sailed over the head of the punter Kolt Payne and ended up out of the end zone for a safety that gave the Knights a 2-0 lead.

Fremont-Mills took over after the safety, scoring on a seven-yard touchdown connection from Sawyer Forney to JW Linkenhoker that made it 8-0 Fremont Mills. After Sidney's next drive stalled, the Knights took over but fumbled it away. That led to a touchdown for Brandon Godfread and Sidney got on the board with 8:40 left in the second quarter at 8-6 Knights.

On the ensuing drive, the Knights scored thanks to a nine-yard touchdown run from running back Paxton Campbell,. The two-point conversion was good to make it 16-6. The next drive for the Cowboys ended on a turnover on downs, so the Knights got the ball just 25 yards from paydirt. A one-handed grab by Mason Reed on the next play made it 24-6 Knights. After a Sidney punt that was returned to the Cowboys' own 10, another touchdown from Linkenhoker and a 32-6 lead. Sidney scored once more just before the half courtesy of Kolt Payne to make it 32-12 Fremont Mills at the half.

Sidney got the ball out of the break and went three and out. The Knights took over and scored on a 3 yard quarterback keeper from Sawyer Forney to make it 40-12 after a successful 2-point conversion. Sidney answered again as they started at their own 29 yard line but ran down the field and ended the drive with a two-yard quarterback sneak from Michael Hensley. The two-point conversion was no good and made it 40-18 Knights.

When Fremont-Mills took over, they found the end zone on another TD reception from JW Linkenhoker, his third of the game to make it 48-18. The Knights' Sam Sanchez then added a touchdown on an 11-yard completion. Sidney responded with just 6:20 left with a touchdown from Kolt Payne. Jonathan Ekpai added one more score for the Knights as they won 62-24 to improve to 7-1 on the season. The Cowboys dropped to 3-5.

Fremont-Mills won the District 10 Title and will move on to the 8-man postseason next, hosting Ar-We-Va. The Knights will bring in the Rockets for a 7pm kickoff on Friday, October 25. Sidney did not qualify for postseason play.
