NEBRASKA CITY, NE - Nebraska City scored a season-high on senior night, but it wasn't quite enough as Wilber-Clatonia left town with a 35-20 win on Friday night.

The Pioneers won the opening coin toss and decided to put their offense on the field quickly by receiving the opening kickoff. Things didn't go as planned, however, as the squad mishandled the kickoff and Wilber-Clatonia recovered the football at NC's 25-yard line. The Wolverines capitalized with a 2-yard touchdown burrow by quarterback Cash Keslar for a 7-0 lead. On their second drive, W-C freshman Crew Pulliam hit tight end Aiden Zajicek on a 12-yard TD toss and a 14-0 score.

Wilber-Clatonia scored on a 67-yard Keslar run just 18 seconds into the second quarter to make it 21-0. Nebraska City got on the board with 38 ticks left on the clock in the half when Landon Ferguson hooked up with Brayden Earll from nine yards out, making it 21-7 at recess.

Keslar began the second half with a 75-yard TD run on the first snap, boosting his team's lead further; and he added a 32-yard scoring run three minutes later for a 35-7 advantage. Nebraska City would outplay Wilber-Clatonia the rest of the way, getting a pair of fourth quarter scores on 20-yard TD runs by Earll & Greyson Flash, but it wasn't enough.

The Pioneers' defense piled up four turnovers via two interceptions & two fumble recoveries, and they successfully converted an onside kick. The Wolverines had two fumble recoveries, both on kickoff returns, to go with one INT.

The loss dropped the Pioneers to 0-7 on the season, while the Wolverines improved to 3-4. This Friday, Nebraska City will visit 1-6 Fairbury, while Wilber-Clatonia will host Falls City.
