NEBRASKA CITY - The Nebraska City Fire Department reports the current burn ban will be extended until there is a significant rainfall.

The Nebraska Forest Service rangeland fire index has the risk of wildfire in the low category, but Fire Chief Rob Schreiner said it is too dry to issue burn permits.

The U.S. Drought Monitor has most of River Country in moderate drought on Sept. 24.

About 25 percent of the national corn crop is affected by drought.
