Massive aquaculture facility proposed at Nebraska City
NEBRASKA CITY – Economic Developer Dan Mauk told Nebraska City commissioners Monday that the proposed complex for GoodLife Agriculture’s aquaculture facility at Nebraska City would have 600,000 square feet under roof.
That is six times more roof area than the former VF Mall building at Nebraska City. It would cover 13.7 acres.
The Mall of America has 5.6 million square feet of retail space or 129 acres, but that is one three to four levels. It has eight acres of skylight.
Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha has 450,000 square feet of retail space, but that is on several levels and is still 150,000 square feet shy of the proposed facility.
Mauk said the proposed outgrowth of Kiel and Mimi VanderVeen’s Nebraska Vegetable and Protein start-up will feature six linear tanks in the processing building that would grow organic, fresh water Atlantic salmon for resale. Six buildings are conceptualized covering the 600,000 square feet, which would cover an area of about 10 football fields.
The Hawks Championship Center near Memorial Stadium in Lincoln covers only 81,200 square feet.
Boeing’s Everett Facility covers 98 acres.
