Sheriff steps up speed enforcement
Highway safety grant provides high-visibility enforcement beginning today
NEBRASKA CITY – The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office is planning a high-visibility enforcement July 12 to July 31st with an emphasis on speeding laws.
A sheriff’s office press release says speed is a major issue in traffic crashes and says law enforcement continues to see speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The National Highway Safety Office says 12,151 people were killed in 2022 in speeding-related traffic crashes. Speeding was a contributing factor in 29 percent of all fatal crashes nationally.
In Nebraska, more than 569 people were injured or killed in speeding related crashes in 2023.
The mobilization is funded by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
