Dangerous stretch of Highway 2
DUNBAR - Emergency crews were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 2 around 6 a.m. today. The accident was in the westbound lanes of Highway 2. Westbound traffic was diverted for most of the morning, including Highway 67 through Dunbar.
The eight-mile stretch between Syracuse and Dunbar in Otoe County has been a dangerous segment so far in 2024.
In March, two women from Florida were killed near Syracuse after a truck and semi-trailer slammed into their SUV, which was stopped for a road obstruction near Road 36.
In May, a car going the wrong way on the highway east of Syracuse struck a car killing a 56-year-old Tecumseh woman.
In June, an 87-year-old St. Joseph, Mo., woman was killed near 34th Road when a GMC Sierra entered the intersection and was struck by an eastbound Jeep.
