Marilyn Mae (Ahrens) Reuter, age 87, passed away on June 19, 2024. Marilyn was born July 18, 1936, to Ernest and Hilda (Laatz) Ahrens. They often told stories about her being born during the great heat wave of ’36.

Marilyn lived her entire life in the Syracuse/Dunbar area. She graduated from Syracuse High School in 1954. She worked at Woolworths and Hoppe Lumber in Nebraska City. Marilyn served as the Dunbar village clerk for many years. She put her farming experience to work as an employee of the Nehawka Farmers’ Co-op in Dunbar.

Marilyn married the love of her life, Ronald (Bud) Reuter, on February 7, 1958. They were blessed with five children and four grandchildren.

Faith was the foundation of Marilyn’s life. She was a member of the Dunbar Presbyterian Church for 69 years and was the church’s longest living member. Marilyn served as a Sunday school officer and teacher. She sang in the church choir and the Harmony Heirs. Marilyn and Bud sang for many weddings, funerals and special occasions. Marilyn had a great love of music, playing a little piano and a lot of guitar. She loved to sing and yodel.

Spending time with family and friends was Marilyn’s greatest joy. She rarely missed any of her children’s or grandchildren’s activities. Marilyn loved spending time outdoors doing yard work and gardening. Marilyn had a lifetime love of all animals, especially horses, and passed it on to her family. She owned horses from the day she was born until the day she died. Marilyn even met Bud while on horseback. Baling hay, driving the tractor and doing chores was hard work, but never a burden when she was with her family. She rode horses until she was 80 and loved watching her family ride even when she could not.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter Kathi (Mark) Weiler of Syracuse, son Randy Reuter of Lincoln, son Rod (Connor) Reuter of Lincoln, son Kurt Reuter of Dunbar and son Matthew Reuter of Dunbar, grandsons Brett (Randi) Weiler, Zane Weiler and granddaughters Kelsey and Erin Reuter all of Lincoln, sister-in-law Carol (Harvey) Hutton of Eagle, sister-in-law Ardell Reuter of Omaha, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and her beloved dog Ellie. She was welcomed to Heaven by her parents, in- laws Adolph and Esther Reuter, brother Eston Ahrens and wife June, and sister Mentha Grabouski and husband Robert, brother-in-law Donald Reuter, nephew Tim Reuter, many dear family members and friends and an entire menagerie of beloved pets.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. at the Dunbar Presbyterian Church. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman Facebook page.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with the family at the church.
