NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City police suspect  a California pair of using counterfeit currency in Oklahoma, Nevada and California before their travels were disrupted by arrests in Richardson and Otoe counties.

With the assistance of the K9 Alex, police searched a car that had parked at the Super Suds Car Wash around 2:50 a.m. June 26. Police say two stacks of counterfeit currency were found in the car along with receipts from several states.

An arrest affidavit says Geremy Scott, 28, of San Pedro, Calif., and Gregory Jones, 18, of Compton, Calif., told police they were in Nebraska City trying to figure out what to do since a third person traveling with them had been arrested in Richardson County.

Police told the court that counterfeit currency is sometimes used to purchase items and receipts are used to return the item for real cash.
