OMAHA - The City of Omaha announced Thursday the discharge of untreated sewage into the Missouri River.

The water contains feces and other wastes and creates hazards for anyone who has contact with it downstream.

The City of Omaha is discharging about 1 million gallons of wastewater per day into the river.

The city says Missouri River flooding has blocked access to the Monroe Street lift station, where the discharge was started Thursday.
