NEBRASKA CITY - Pottawattamie County officials are asking residents to evacuate the Missouri River bottom south of the Council Bluffs city limits and east of the Missouri River to Interstate 29.

The river is forecast to crest around 1 a.m. Thursday and rapidly recede to minor flood level by Sunday.

Governors in Nebraska and Iowa are advising people to stay out of the river and off of federal flood levees.

Atchison County Missouri emergency management reminds residents that the levees are new and untested.

Riverview Marina at Nebraska City was closed Tuesday morning as water is encroaching on the access road.

Meanwhile heat advisories remain in effect until 7 p.m. today. An excessive heat warning with heat index values up to 110 degrees are expected.
