Susie Emma (Frye) Wyatt, age ninety-six, of Syracuse, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln.

Susie was the daughter of Fred and Susie (Mitchell) Frye. She was born on April 2, 1928, in Emerson, Nebraska. Susie’s childhood was spent in various locations in Nebraska, Iowa, and Alberta, Canada.

As a teenager in Syracuse, Susie juggled several part-time jobs while attending high school. She worked as an overnight operator at the telephone office, was employed at the Five and Dime, was a sought-after babysitter, and sold tickets at the Palace Theater, where she met her future husband, Glen, in 1943.

Susie Frye and Glen Wyatt were married on August 1, 1945, in Syracuse Nebraska.  They began nearly seventy-six years of married life northwest of Unadilla, on a farm owned by Richard and Laurine Kimmel. Four children were born to them while they lived there: Reg, Teresa, Karen, and David.

In 1960, Susie and Glen moved the family to his parents’ farm, not far from the Kimmel place.  They built a new home there in 1969. In 1980, they built another home in Unadilla and resided there until 2011, when they moved to Syracuse.

For many years, Susie was a farm wife, 4-H leader, and Sunday school teacher. She retired after 18 years of employment at the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles.

To know Susie was to love her. She had a quiet, calm nature and was known for her sewing, baking, cooking, and gardening talents.

Susie loved to host family gatherings to celebrate birthdays and holidays. Her children and grandchildren especially loved her homemade cinnamon rolls, pies, cookies, and bread. Her decorated gingerbread kids were a family Christmas tradition.

Glen and Susie traveled to Canada, Mexico, the British Isles, and forty-nine states (they never made it to Louisiana and could never say why).

Susie was a member of the Unadilla Methodist Church more than 76 years. She is survived by son Reg (Joanne Bell) of Lincoln; daughter Teresa Wyatt of Tucson; daughter Karen Drevo of Norfolk; son David (Ruth) of Unadilla; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother Fred (Loretta Kelly) Frye; and many nieces and nephews.

Susie was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; her parents, Fred and Susie Frye; parents-in-law, Neil and Ethel Wyatt; son-in-law Dennis Drevo; granddaughter Nancy Drevo; sister Dorothy Sammons; brother and sister-in-law Sterling and Norma Brechtel; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Randall Gartner; sister Irene Zimmerman; sister-in-law Jean Frye; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Doris and Virgil Windels; and, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Elda and Carl Bolt.
