Nebraska City Softball Association 18u Team Finishes Second at State Tournament

HASTINGS, NE - The Nebraska City Softball Association 18u team claimed runner-up at the USA Softball Class B Tournament in Hastings on Sunday, June 16.
According to Coach Nick Schmitz, a total of 25 teams did battle in the tournament, and they were probably the only one that wasn't a "Select Sports" softball squad. Select Sports teams can have tryouts, bring kids in from all over, and start playing much earlier than Nebraska City.
Coach Schmitz explained that while his team was hosting its Memorial Day weekend tournament, they had played roughly 5-10 games, while their opponents had closer to 30 games under their belts.
The squad began the season with a record of 4-3-1, but then went on an 11-game winning streak before falling in the championship round twice to drop their record to 15-5-1. The team will play in a second State Tournament this weekend in Lincoln that's run by USSSA Softball.
As for the fall, the high school team was 14-13 last season, but will bring back all of the players who saw playing time, as the lone senior was injured and unable to get on the field. That squad will be bringing in a lot of success & experience from a stellar spring & summer showing.
