PAWNEE CITY - Former Pawnee City para-educator Kandice Johnson was sentenced to six to 12 years in prison for sexually abusing two minors.

Johnson, 36, was sentenced to six to 12 years for second degree sexual assault and two years for sexual abuse by a school employee in 2023. She would be eligible for parole in three years.

Court documents say Johnson frequently allowed minors to drink alcohol and her home and was involved in other inappropriate behaviors.

Judge Rick Schreiner said probation is not appropriate because the defendant is in need of treatment that can be provided most effectively by commitment to a correctional facility.
