Howard “Buck” Gansemer 87 of Nehawka passed away June 10 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City surrounded by his children.  Howard was born on March 16, 1937 in Nehawka to Lester and Beulah Gansemer.  Howard was raised in the Nehawka and Murray area and graduated from Nehawka High School in 1955.  He was United in marriage to Janice Lea Switzer on March 18, 1956 in Council Bluffs, IA.  Four children were born to this marriage.  Howard served in the military from 1961-63 in Germany and then served 4 years in the reserves.  After his military service he farmed until 1981 when he started with Nehawka Farmers Coop of which he retired.

Howard loved farming, fishing, camping, and watching the grandkids play baseball and softball.  He enjoyed Sunday morning pool church, many games of cards with friends and family, Janice’s fried chicken and especially dancing with the love of his life. 


Howard is survived by 3 daughters, Susan  Sorensen of Nebraska City, Donna (Rick) Wipf of Louisville, Debbie (Richi) Fox of Nehawka; son, Allen (Jen) Gansemer of Nehawka; grandsons, Joey (Sarah) Wipf, Brook (Karlie) Fox, Lane Fox, Ty Fox, Zane Gansemer, Kobe (Sydney) Gansemer; granddaughters, Shelby (Justin) Mason and Ali Gansemer; great grandchildren, Hudson, Decker, Baylor, Emmy, Taytum and Ella; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. 

Howard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Janice; parents; sisters, Barbara Gochenour, Patricia Swartz, Lavon Speck and Shirley Haswell; and son in law, Gary Sorensen.


Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Nehawka United Methodist Church with burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Nehawka.


Visitations will be from 1:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
