SYRACUSE - A Very cold wintery night, on January 5, 2014 the 102 year old United Methodist church in Syracuse, met with a catastrophic  fire.

With only the shell remaining,  the devastated community came together  supporting the 180 congregation members, through many fundraising events. Two years later a design was accepted by members, including the stained glass windows and a picture that hung in the basement,  the approximate 1.2 million dollar project began.  Four years and 22 days from the fire, the church was complete.

The congregation has announced the celebration of a loan burning ceremony on June 16 at 10 a.m.. A potluck meal is being planned after the ceremony.

A page from a hymnal, found the next day during clean up, seemed fitting for the congregation to frame and display.   " We shall overcome". and they did!
