NEBRASKA CITY – The Otoe County Attorney’s Office has filed a motor vehicle homicide charge on allegations of a wrong-way driver on Highway 2 near Syracuse at 3:20 a.m. on Sunday, May 19.

An Otoe County sheriff’s deputy told the court that Michael Salvato, 24, of Overland Park, Kan., was traveling east in the westbound lanes of the highway when his Jeep hit a westbound Ford Fusion head on. Court records say the initial impact was in the left lane of the two westbound lanes.

Ann Fields, 56, of Tecumseh was killed. A celebration of life for her is pending at Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home. An obituary says she was an assistant manager at Casey’s, a single mother of four and an enthusiastic grandmother.

Bond for Salvato was set in Otoe County court at $100,000.

The sheriff’s office says after the initial impact, there was a less severe impact between the Fusion and a Freightliner motorcoach.
