Joann J. Hoffman, age 84, of Nebraska City passed away on May 15, 2024 in Nebraska City.

Joann was born on June 3, 1939 in Nebraska City, the daughter of Chester and Helen (Stoehr) Turner. She attended grade school at Pleasant Grove #35 and later Nebraska City High School. She was united in marriage to Gerald Milton Hoffman on July 15, 1956 at the First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City, and to this union, three children were born: David, Colleen, and Robert.

Along with being a homemaker and raising her children, Joann worked for a time at Nebraska City Outerwear Sewing Factory and cleaned houses. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebraska City where she was involved with the Women’s Division and her love of quilting led her to be an active member of the Sew & Sews at the church.  She was also active in the community as a member of WOTA, Meals on Wheels, working at Polling Site for the Election Board and other miscellaneous volunteer work.

She is survived by her children: Colleen Rippe and husband Leroy of Geneva, NE and Bob Hoffman and wife Brenda of Nebr. City; grandchildren: Christine Harris (Eric), Wendy Rippe (Orlando), Wes Rippe (Alex), Kelsey Todd (Bud), and Haley Bauermeister (Andrew); great-grandchildren: Brayden, Emma, Kendie, Briley, Elsa, Katerina, Bentley, Atlas, Piper, Mason, Hunter, Winston, Barrett, and Layla; brother and sister in law Lee and Joyce Turner of Nebr. City; sister in law Evelyn Turner of Bradenton, FL; other family and friends.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband Gerald on March 8, 2021, son David Hoffman on January 27, 2014, granddaughter Theresa Mary Hoffman in 1985, her parents:  Chester and Helen Turner and father and mother in law:  Cornelius and Alma Hoffman; brother and sister in law Alvin and Fumiko Turner, sisters in law Elaine Pummel, Marcia and Deloris and brother in law Warren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 3rd, 2024 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nebraska City. Inurnment will follow at Wyuka Cemetery.  Following the graveside, a Luncheon will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be directed to Nebraska City Fire and Rescue or First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
