April 22, 2024 (Nebraska CIty) - Follow the yellow brick road to Lourdes Central Catholic High School to see the "The Wizard of Oz" May 3rd, 4th and 5th. Performances will be held in the Wirth Theatre at Lourdes Central Catholic main campus.

“The Wizard of Oz” is one of the most popular musicals of all time and one for all ages. It’s based on the iconic 1939 film of the same name featuring the legendary Judy Garland as Dorothy.

Nearly everyone knows the story of young Dorothy Gale and her little dog, Toto who are swept away from Kansas in a tornado that carries their little house over the rainbow to a magical land called Oz.

Director Lesley Gould is excited to bring this spectacular musical to the stage. The musical was performed in 1992, four years before Gould was at Lourdes.

She says, “I’ve never directed this show before! It’s been a challenge, but one that has been enjoyable. I think the audience is going to really enjoy the show.” “The Wizard of Oz” is a classic and all of our students have put a lot of time and effort into the performance.” explained Gould.

“We’ve had so much help putting everything together—parents helping with set construction, costume alterations plus many students helping with set painting. It’s been a labor of love.”

A total of 63 high school students are involved in the production as performing cast, stage crew, dressers and technical crew running lights and sound.

Audiences will love the live orchestra and the variety of dance in this show.

Showtimes are Friday, May 3 at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, May 4 at 7:00 PM; and the matinee on Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m.
