Mental Health Awareness Walk-Run planned

NEBRASKA CITY - A mental health awareness walk/run is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 27, at Arbor Lodge State Park.
Stephanie Roth, organizer of Shine your Light Nebraska City, said she hopes the event provides hope for those fighting mental illness, as well as those who have loved and lost.
Registrations are being taken online at runsignup.com by clicking the "find a race" tab and entering Shine Your Light Nebraska City.

In an effort to erase the stigma associated with public disclosure of mental health issues and suicide, a group from Nebraska City is organizing a “Shine Your Light” Mental Health Awareness Run.
“We’re coming together to show each other support and walk or run with a common purpose,” said event organizer Stephanie Roth. “We want to give hope to those fighting mental health issues and to those who have loved and lost.”
Scheduled for Monday, May 27, the event will take place in Arbor Lodge State Park. Runners and walkers are welcomed. The kick-off will be at 9 a.m. in front of the Whispering Bench near the entrance to the park.
The “Shine Your Light” event is not timed or distanced. Participants are encouraged to go as long and as far through the park as they desire or to forge their own path.

Early registrants (up to May 20) are guaranteed a t-shirt on the day of the event.
