Roger Lowell Ward, age 81, of Sidney passed away on April 16th, 2024 at his home in Sidney. He grew up in Riverton, IA. Roger  married Bonnie Wright in 1961 and they made their home in Nebraska City.

Roger had many jobs from the time he was young until he met Bonnie while working at Hudson's gas station. He later moved on to run the DX Gas Station in Sidney for ten years. His next career venture was as a rural mail carrier with the USPS. He held this job for 40 plus years when he retired to enjoy time with his family.

Roger's favorite pastimes included camping, fishing, hiking, and spending time with family, specially his grandkids and great grandkids which were his pride and joy. Mowing and tinkering with his mowers was a passion, along with any other outdoor activities.

Roger was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and served as a trustee for many years. He and  his family often assisted with holiday services at the church. He had an ear for music and played the guitar and dulcimer often times later in the evening setting a calming aura over the household.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Bonnie Ward and their five children: Brian Ward, Tammy  (Rick) Wren, Linda Ward, Eric (Elizabeth) Ward, and Brad Ward. His grandchildren: Wendy  (Dave) Moheng, Mindy  (Josh) Kimpston, Tobyn Ward, and Jamis Ward. His great grandchildren: Connor Moheng, Gavin Moheng, Savannah Moheng, Elliott Ward, Skylar Aultman, Logan Aultman, Memphis Kimpston, Zoiee Ward, Miniee Ward, and Ace Ward. He is also survived by his brothers Cecil Ward, Darwin Ward, Charles Ward and sister-in-law Shirley Briggs, as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Lonnie Ward, sister Joan Stockstill, sister Joyce Philbrick, brother-in-law Ronnie and wife Darlene Fletcher, brother-in-law Jack Briggs, brother-in-law Quentin Chapman (Wilma) Chapman, and brother-in-law Louis and wife Margie Thomas.

Graveside Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, April 19, 2024 at the Sidney, Iowa Cemetery with Rev. Jan Phillips officiating.  Visitation with the family greeting friends will be from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Marshall Funeral Chapel, in Sidney.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are directed to the Sidney Rescue Squad.
