Bertha M. “Bertie” Lutz, age 88 of Omaha, NE (formerly Nebr. City) passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at the New Cassel Retirement Home in Omaha. 

Bertha Mary Lutz was born on April 20, 1935 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Joseph A. and Olive G. (Ramold) Schmitz.  She attended school at St. Bernard’s Academy in Nebr. City, where she graduated with the Class of 1952.

After high school, Bertie worked for St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebr. City in the X-Ray Department.  On October 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Lutz at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paul, NE and to this union six children were born:  William, Jr., Laura, Mary Ellen, Susan, Patrick and Stephen.

In addition to raising her family, Bertie worked as an Interpreter for the deaf for Metropolitan Technical Community College and various other organizations.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.  She was an avid quilter and enjoyed crocheting and making things for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a loving friend to all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children:  William Robert Lutz Jr. (Melony) of Tonganoxie, KS, Laura Blevins (Ralph) of Topeka, KS, Mary Hiatt (Richard) of Omaha, NE, Susan Lienberger (Scott) of Jewell, KS, and Stephen Lutz (Randi) of Tonganoxie, KS; daughter-in-law:  Kris Lutz of Omaha, NE; grandchildren:  Daniel Lutz, Jeremy Winfrey (Haley), Zachary Blevins, Paige Blevins-Jones (Jon), Megan Bergstrom (Kenny), Molly Grandgenett (Ryan), Max Hiatt, Maggie Matveyeva (Vlad), Ashley Augustine (Matt), Amy Ziolkowski (Jake), William Lienberger (Brittany), Olivia Lutz, Elise Lutz, Clayton Lutz, Anthony Lutz (Sarah), Matthew Lutz (Elizabeth) and Joseph Lutz (Wendy); great-grandchildren:  Kellan, Kavik, Kodah, Lincoln, Theo, Charlotte, Daniel, Kennedy, Harrison, Agatha, Brynjar, Anna, James, Jack, Luke and Ariel; sisters-in-law:  Caroline Schmitz, Joanne Hanks (Jim), Donna Stratker (Henry) and brother-in-law Gary Hert; many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

Bertie was preceded in death by her husband Bill Lutz on Feb. 11, 2019; son Patrick Lutz; grandson Michael Scott Lienberger; parents and siblings:  Alvin Schmitz, Lorretta Sarraillon and Joseph “Buddy” Schmitz.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paul, NE with Fr. Ronald Homes officiating.
