Otis L. Bond, age 99 of Avoca, NE passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Syracuse Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, NE.

Otis Leroy Bond was born on January 20, 1925 in Tabler, OK; the son of David James and Eva (Reuss) Bond.  He attended school in Tabler and then Peru, NE after his family moved to Nebraska.  He was united in marriage to Helen Maxine Flint on July 4, 1945 at the Cass County Courthouse in Plattsmouth, NE.  They shared 69 years together before her passing on December 19, 2014.

He entered the United States Army on January 18, 1945 and honorably served his country until his discharge on April 6, 1946.  Otis served in the South Pacific in the Philippines.

Otis was a lifelong dairy farmer, a job he greatly enjoyed.  He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He was the Stake Patriarch for 28 years and he and his wife, Maxine, served in the Oakland California Cambodian Mission and the St. Louis and Winter Quarters Temples. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his children:  Larry Bond (Beverly) of Aurora, CO, Deanna Tipton (Robert) of Superior, NE, Roger Bond (Debra) of Syracuse, NE, Linda Harrop (Wren Clair) of Rexburg, ID, Gayle Berntsen (Mark) of Rexburg, ID and Jerry Bond (Cathrin) of Avoca, NE; 23 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; other family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Otis was preceded in death by stillborn son Gary Bond; granddaughters:  Natalie Summers and Julia Marie Bond Barahona; son-in-law Ben Summers; grandson-in-law Travis Ford; his parents and siblings:  David A. Bond, Goldie Bond, Archie L. Bond, Maragaretie A. Bond, Samuel R. Bond and Henry J. Bond.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in Nebraska City.  Burial will follow at Avoca Cemetery in Avoca, NE with Military Honors conducted by the Nebraska Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and the Weeping Water American Legion Post #237.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.  There will also be visitation at the church, prior to the service, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
