NEBRASKA CITY – A Nebraska City man could serve 30 months in state prison on separate felony convictions for terroristic threats, tampering with a witness and attempted failure to render aid after a traffic accident.

Trevor Bennett, 20, was also sentenced to a year of post-release supervision and ordered to pay $5,150 in restitution in regard to a December traffic accident south of Nebraska City on Third Street. Court records say Bennett fled the scene after the accident.

District Judge Julie Smith ordered Bennett’s prison sentence to run consecutive to a sentence for tampering with a witness on May 15.   Court records say Bennett sent a Snapchat message threatening to injure a witness if he is convicted of a felony.

An Otoe County sheriff’s deputy told the court he responded to an H Road residence on a report of Bennett sending threatening SnapChat messages and driving by and shooting a gun. The deputy said he did not find any damage linked to the gunshots, but he later found a 380 handgun in the glove box of Bennett’s vehicle.
