PERU – Peru State College hosted the inaugural Festival of Winds and Percussion in March to foster musical excellence among high school students.

Composer Tyler Grant offered his insight during the event at the Performing Arts Center, which was attended by 150 high school students who are preparing for upcoming district music contests.

Dr. Scott Walker, director of the college’s instrumental activities, said he expects Grant’s enthusiasm and expertise to have a lasting impact  on those striving for musical excellence.

On Friday, March 22nd, Peru State Bands proudly hosted their inaugural Festival of Winds and Percussion, an event aimed at fostering musical excellence among high school students, featuring acclaimed composer Tyler S. Grant as the distinguished clinician. The festival, held in the Performing Arts Center on the Peru State College campus, brought together approximately 150 high school students who are diligently preparing for their upcoming District Music Contests later this year. Tyler S. Grant, a prominent figure in the realm of music composition and education, lent his expertise and guidance to aspiring musicians throughout the festival.

While on campus, Grant also led a thought-provoking discussion with Peru State students. This session provided an invaluable opportunity for aspiring musicians and educators to gain insights into Grant's multifaceted career as a composer, conductor, clinician, and entrepreneur. His experiences and perspectives served as a source of inspiration for all attendees and fostered a deeper understanding of navigating a successful music career.
