Leila M. Kruse, 99 of Syracuse, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. She was born on March 27, 1924, at home near Syracuse to Henry & Adala (Kuehn) Liesemeyer. On August 8, 1943, she married Virgil Kruse at St. John’s United Church of Christ (McWilliams) near Talmage.

In addition to her role as a dedicated farmwife, Leila was actively involved with her church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent for many years as well as contributing her time to the Ladies Guild. Leila had a passion for gardening, cultivating both flowers and vegetables, which she tended to until her mid-90’s.

She is survived by her daughter Verlene (Wilder) Owens; grandson David (Mariah) Holmes; great grandchildren Cole & Malakai Holmes; also nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil and brother Victor Liesemeyer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Church (McWilliams) in rural Talmage. The burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 22 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Cemetery (McWilliams).
