PERU – Peru Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a fire in the old locker rooms at the Oak Bowl at Peru State College Monday afternoon.
Assistant Fire Chief Luke Winkelman said there was a furnace fire that was extinguished by Peru State College maintenance before firefighters arrived. The fire was contained to the furnace box and never made it to the structure.
The furnace had been turned on for a spring training session at the Oak Bowl. Players were using the building, but Winkelman said they were not in the building when the smoke was noticed.
Peru State’s spring football practice is scheduled March 25.
