NEBRASKA CITY – The debut of director Adam Rehmeier’s movie “Snack Shack” will include Nebraska City’s Pioneer 3 Theater, according to Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce.

The debut comes nearly two years after filming in and around Nebraska City and nearly 30 years after Rehmeier graduated high school here.

The movie opens nationally on Friday, March 15, but there is a special screening at the Pioneer 3 Theater on Wednesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. The screening will be followed by a question and answer time.

Friendships, young love, hot summer nights, and the lure of cold hard cash weave together the story
that is Snack Shack. This coming-of-age film, born from Nebraska City native Adam Rehmeier, is debuting
across America this March, including at the Pioneer 3 in Nebraska City.

Snack Shack follows the antics of best friends Moose and A.J. during the summer of 1991. In an
attempt to earn money, the duo, played by actors Gabriel LaBelle and Conor Sherry, take over management
of the titular pool concession stand. Their plans are complicated by interfering family, friends, enemies,
and a love interest.

The much-anticipated release of Rehmeier’s Snack Shack comes nearly two years after filming
occurred in and around Nebraska City. For six weeks in the summer of 2022, Hollywood made itself at home
here, shooting in such locations as the Sunken Parking Lot on Central Avenue, on the retrofitted streets of
downtown, in historic First Avenue homes, and, of course, at the Steinhart Aquatic Center. Many locals were
cast as extras in the film.

Rehmeier, a 1995 graduate of Nebraska City High School, delved into his own biography for much of
the storyline. Rehmeier was adamant about filming in Nebraska City and has often referred to the movie as
a “love letter to Nebraska City.”

While the movie opens nationwide on Friday, March 15, there is a special screening at the Pioneer 3
Theater in Nebraska City on Wednesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. Rehmeier and several members of the cast and
crew are expected to be on hand. The screening will be followed by a Q&A time.
