HALL COUNTY, Neb. – Hall County Emergency Management has confirmed there are no injuries after 57 BNSF train cars derailed near Cairo early Friday morning.

According to Hall County Emergency Management, around 4:45 a.m. Friday morning, a Burlington Northern and Santa Fe coal train derailed near Cairo.

Hall County Emergency Management Director Jon Rosenlund said the train was only carrying coal, which spilled after derailment and poses no threat to the area.

A total of 57 cars derailed, and an investigation into the cause is ongoing. BNSF crews are conducting clean-up efforts and no other resources were requested. The derailment is currently blocking all crossings from High Street to 110th road near Cairo.

Hall County Emergency Management representatives are also on scene to assist in the investigation.

The cause of this derailment is still being investigated.
