Richard H. Hauberg, 88, Talmage, NE
Richard H. Hauberg, age 88 of Talmage, NE passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City, NE.
Richard Harry Hauberg was born on January 13, 1936 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Harry Martin and Beulah Louise (Bebout) Hauberg. He began school in a rural school near Graf in Johnson County Nebraska. The family later moved to their present home when he was in the third grade. He was very active in sports, playing in the state basketball tournament in high school. He graduated from Talmage High School with the Class of 1954.
Richard married Elaine Pauline Krugman on November 18, 1962 in O’Neill, NE and to this union three children were born: Beth Elaine, Amy Sue and Kyle Richard. His children and their families were the apple of his eye.
Richard began farming with his father upon graduation from high school. Due to the farming economy in 1968, Richard began his construction career building the nuclear plant at Brownville, NE. Following its completion, Richard moved on to other projects, quickly becoming a manager of various construction projects, which sent him across the United States. He always said the view of Talmage - as he came over the hill on Highway 67 - was the most beautiful view in the country. Richard would spend over 32 years in the construction field. Rich never lost his love of farming, as his family can attest to his frequent request to check the crops. His ‘farming’ continued in the large garden he and his wife Elaine grew.
Richard was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He was a board member of Otoe County Respite. He served in the Army National Guard. As a member of the Talmage American Legion, Richard assisted with multiple honor guards for military funerals. Rich and Elaine were avid Nebraska football and volleyball fans, holding season tickets to both. He loved hunting with his family and friends. As he reached retirement, at the encouragement of his son, he took up golfing. This was to help them escape the women at family gatherings. Rich and his grandson, Ryan, enjoyed many hours of golf, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Hauberg of Talmage, NE; children: Beth (Terry) Panko of Cook, NE, Amy (Dan) Welzenbach of Lenexa, KS and Kyle (Alisa) Hauberg of Rochester, MI, grandchildren: Ryan Panko (Lyndee Wenzel and her son Noah Wenzl-Vermeer), Isabelle Welzenbach, Emma, Alaina, Nicholas and Ellery Hauberg; brother-in-law Keith (Verna) Krugman of Fremont, CA, sister-in-law Donna Krugman of Kansas City, KS; other family and friends.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, his wife’s parents, Paul and Elva Krugman, and a brother-in-law Merle Krugman.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Church in Talmage, NE. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Talmage, NE.
