Driver accused of fleeing arrest at speeds from 30 to 105 mph
NEBRASKA CITY – A 39-year-old Hickman man is charged in Otoe County with flight to avoid arrest on Jan. 24.
An Otoe County sheriff’s deputy says he clocked a SUV driven by Joshua Pearce going 102 mph on Highway 2 near Syracuse. The deputy says he turned around and caught up the with the SUV, which had slowed and was weaving in its lane. In an arrest affidavit, the deputy says he activated overhead lights but the car continued west for three miles at speeds as low as 30 mph.
The SUV stopped near Road 18, but when the deputy began giving verbal commands the driver continued west. The affidavit says speeds reached 105 mph through traffic.
The Nebraska State Patrol used spike strips near Bennett and took Pearce into custody. A $30,000 bond was set in county court.
