CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Peru State men's basketball team beat the Mount Mercy Mustangs on Saturday evening, 83-59. The Bobcats are now 7-7 in the Heart of America conference and 11-7 overall. 

In the first half of the matchup with the Mustangs, the Bobcats had a hot start and took a fast lead, taking a 14-point lead in the first 10 minutes of the half. The Bobcats continued to extend their lead throughout the first half with the help of 13 points from Sayvon Traylor and five rebounds from Carlos Hines. The Bobcats led at half 45-32. 

The Bobcats didn't let up in the second half, scoring 38 points. Sayvon Traylor scored 10 points for the Bobcats in the second half. Amir Poat added six rebounds as they stopped the Mustangs' efforts to close the lead. The Bobcats were able to hold off the Mustangs and extend their lead to 24 points and and took the win, 83-59. 

Sayvon Traylor led the Bobcats with 23 points, making five of his six 3-point shots, and tallied five rebounds. Ajantae Hogan scored 15 points and added four rebounds for the Bobcats. David Wingett Jr had nine points and three rebounds with Carlos Hines adding eight points and seven rebounds against the Mustangs. Amir Poat had seven rebounds, four points and two steals.  

Next: The Bobcats will continue their trip to Iowa in Dubuque on Monday, January 22, to take on the Clarke Pride. Tipoff is set for 6:00 PM.
