OMAHA, Neb. -- Prison time was given to a man from Omaha following his child pornography conviction.

Acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr said 38-year-old Christopher Carreras, of Omaha, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Wednesday. He was convicted for traveling with the intent to engage in sexual activity with a minor and possession of child pornography. Carreras will serve 168 months in prison for each count with a five-year term of supervised release after. The sentences will run concurrently. There is no parole in the federal system. Carreras has to pay $3,000 in restitution.

According to court documents, Carreras starting talking online with the minor victim who was based in Texas. Carreras traveled from Nebraska to Texas on Feb. 62, 2022, to meet up with the minor victim. After meeting face-to-face in a shopping mall, Carreras gave the minor victim his hotel room key.

Officials said the minor victim used the key to enter his hotel room where the two engaged in sexual activity. Carreras went to meet up with the minor victim on other occasions in 2022. The minor victim reported what happened. The FBI used a search warrant for Carreras’s home in Nebraska on Oct. 6, 2022, and took his electronic devices.

Authorities state that a review of the devices showed records of online chat messages between Carreras, the minor victim, and at least one other apparent minor female. The minor victim wrote that they were about to turn 16-years-old. Child porn video files and images were also found on the devices.

This case was investigated by the Omaha FBI's Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
