Bellevue man receives prison time for strangulation conviction
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- A Bellevue man that was convicted for strangulation was given three years in prison.
Acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr said 21-year-old Luis Duran Salcedo, of Bellevue, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha on Friday. He was convicted for assault by strangulation. Duran will serve 36 months in prison with a three-year term of supervised release after. There is no parole in the federal system.
According to court documents, a woman went to her home on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in the early morning hours and parked her car in the driveway in March 2023. Duran got into her vehicle and began to assault her.
Officials said the woman got out of her car and tried to run away, but Duran caught her and dragged her back into her home. Duran then punched, slapped and strangled her.
Authorities state that Duran kept the woman in the room with him for two hours before he let her go. Duran is not Native American, but the victim is Native American, which gives rise to federal jurisdiction because the assault happened on an Indian Reservation.
This case was investigated by the FBI.
